1. The Jacket Driving The ‘Marty Supreme’ Buzz Well before Timothée Chalamet accepted the Golden Globe for his role as ping-pong hustler in Marty Supreme, the movie’s branded windbreaker was already famous. The hype started months ago when Chalamet’s girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, wore a Marty Supreme jacket to a Yankees game. More celebrities quickly followed. Hailey Bieber wore it while running errands with husband Justin. Singer Frank Ocean sported the piece in the studio. Football GOAT Tom Brady was seen in it. Even … wait for it … Bill Nye. The Science Guy. The jacket was so popular that Chalamet’s mother asked him to send her one (size small, please). And, in typical mom fashion, urged him to “Do it now so it’s timely.” Obviously, fans wanted in. At the New York City Marty Supreme pop-up, a line stretched more than five blocks. Thousands waited for hours, tipped off only by a tweet from Chalamet: “C U at 7,” followed by an address. When doors opened, fans were greeted with a literal menu of merch: keychains, socks, hats, shirts, sweatpants and the highly coveted jacket, created by streetwear designer Doni Nahmias. The $250 limited-edition lightweight jacket has a relaxed unisex silhouette and cinched hem reminiscent of the Starter team jackets popular in the ’90s. The piece, available in orange, red, black and blue, sold out in 15 minutes. And The Oscar For Best Merch Goes To… Hollywood understands the power of branded merchandise, and viewers can’t get enough. In December, Prince Street Pizza locations were transformed into the fictional pizzeria the McCallisters order from before accidentally leaving Kevin home alone. All locations featured branded pizza boxes, collectible packaging and updated menu items, including Kevin’s “lovely cheese pizza,” which the chain described as a “classic, allChicagoan pizza pie loaded with cheese, cheese and cheese – perfect for pizza lovers of all shapes and sizes who just really, really, love cheese.” Locations in Chicago and Toronto took it a step further, decking out stores with Little Nero’s décor that made elderly millennials swoon. The real draw was the red pizza delivery car that plows over the McCallisters’ lawn ornament in the movie. Disney+ didn’t stop at Italian food. It partnered with CLEAR for a “No Kevin Left Behind” airport activation ahead of the winter holidays. At nine major U.S. airports, CLEAR+ members named Kevin received a complimentary CLEAR concierge service for a future trip.
