I was partner in a promotional products distributorship for 17 years and sold my interest in it last spring. I had noticed that that there weren’t any suppliers in the industry offering custom-label, high- end specialty coffee beans. My son Rob Bathe owns Folly Coffee Roasters here in the Twin Cities. They had tried custom labeling on their own a couple of times and figured out there was more to it than they thought (samples, purchase orders, art files, proofs, etc.—you know the drill.) So we started Logojojo in an effort to get Folly into the promo world and to share Folly joy with more of the universe. Rob partners with Head Roaster Jeff Mooney, aka Folly Jeff. He is a nationally ranked coffee taster and certified Q Grader—think wine sommelier in the coffee world with an equally grueling exam. Folly Jeff does all of the procurement, roasting and tasting of every Folly bean. And, of course, I am Rob’s mother so I may be a bit biased, but I can’t “espresso” the deliciousness of a freshly brewed cup of Folly Coffee. And besides, Rob is a hipster and I am nearing the age for hip replacements, so what could be more perfect? What’s your favorite thing about being in the promotional products industry? There’s a rush when I talk with distributors and the ideas start flowing on how to use our coffee for brand messaging for their clients. Whether our coffee is a solution for employee recognition, conference swag or client appreciation, being a part of that creative process is a brew ‐tiful thing! Why did you join PPAI? Coming from the distributor side of the business, learning how suppliers operate has been an education. PPAI is a great resource. And I love the Expo. We can’t wait to until we’re all back on the show floor, and Logojojo can share the joy and lusciousness of Folly Coffee with distributors in person.
