W e are in the midst of a major moment in fashion—it’s the time of athleisure. Yoga pants, athletic shoes, running shorts and oversized tanks have transitioned from exclusively gym garb to mainstream fashion. With the added appeal of comfort, combined with the look of athleticism or a laidback yoga-studio style, athleisure has become a go-to for many people. The attraction? Athleisure, according to The NPD Group, appeals to an expansive range of consumer demographics, coupled with consumers’ growing interest in their health and a desire to “look the part” of being active. In an article published by Retail Drive , Michelle Grant, head of retail at Euromonitor International, stated, “Athleisure is such a mega trend in apparel right now that everyone should have that product category.” 26 | NOVEMBER 2019 | INNOVATE
