My wife Cynthia and I were looking for a business we could start that would be fueled by our passion for healthy cooking and the desire to be ultra-creative. We are both avid Ironman athletes—ranked in the top one percent in the world—who have utilized spices for the past several years to enhance our nutrition program that is so critical to training and racing. Along with my background having been on the distributor side for over 35 years and having carved out a unique niche in the health and safety sector, we thought introducing spices to the promotional products industry could be a real game changer, as well as satisfy our desire to express our creative side and share our passion for health and nutrition. What led your company to enter the promotional products market? Most spice businesses focus on targeting the retail/consumer sector. We wanted to introduce spice to a market that was brand new. The cool thing about spice is that every spice has unique properties and stories that any brand can leverage to articulate their brand story, point of differentiation and brand message. We wanted to provide an opportunity for distributors to do more than just put a logo on a product but really help their clients share their brand message in a experiential way. Previously, as a distributor, I didn’t see too many suppliers looking beyond just logoing a product. We wanted to change that or at least provide a new option. What’s your favorite thing about being in the promotional products industry? We love working closely with progressive distributors and helping them see the value of being creative and truly be in the branding business. It’s an industry that is open to new thinking and the distributor network seems to be embracing this approach. Why did you join PPAI? As a distributor I had fond memories of all of the great industry events that PPAI provided from a learning, networking and sourcing capability. I wanted to experience this on the supplier side and now I am. Brian Scott President Le Tour de Spice, Inc. Brian Scott and his wife, Cynthia. | OCTOBER 2019 | 115 CONNECT
