Responding To Fast Company ’s Industry Criticisms In November, Fast Company published an article that derided promotional products, criticizing their environmental footprint and mischaracterizing the industry as one that sells its products solely in a race to the bottom with pricing. In a letter to the magazine and in a post on his blog, PPAI President and CEO Paul Bellantone, CAE, pushed back against the article’s message and its excess of misconceptions and criticism about the industry. Well put. I intend to use this information in an upcoming presentation to sales professionals. Thank you for beautifully summarizing the promotional products industry in 2018. CHRIS ELLIOT Logo Product Experts Encinitas, California PPAI 272701 As they say, the facts and truth don’t lie. Could you imagine the world without smart, quality, useful promotional items? I don’t think so. PHIL GILMORE President MDR Promotions Pine Brook, New Jersey PPAI 411656 Thank you, Paul, for eloquently and factually advocating for our great industry! DEVIN MARTIN Account Manager Advance Corporation Burnsville, Minnesota PPAI 111135 The Plummers In the December-issue article “All In The Family,” PPB profiled Kate Plummer, MAS, vice president of sales and marketing for Toronto, Ontario-based Clearmount Plastics Limited. The piece provided an up-close look at not only her history with her family company, but the unique work it does for its clients. This is a well-written article about a very well-respected family and their business in our promotional products industry. It’s nice to realize how a Canadian company left an impression on so many important figures and events in the world. Well deserved! WINSTON LO President Boulevard Advertising Richmond, British Columbia PPAI 278078 Honoring PPB ’s MarCom Award Win PPB magazine won a 2018 Platinum MarCom Award for creative excellence in the annual competition administered by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. The MarCom competition is one of the largest and most-respected creative competitions worldwide and winners are selected based on quality of the entry, creativity and resourcefulness. Congratulations to you all! Back in the day, the tiny fledgling publication was just barely able to be called that. It started from a board meeting in Florida, as I recall. I never thought it would get to be such a fine magazine. You have worked hard; the honors are well-deserved! MARGARET CUSTER FORD, MAS Founder MARCO Ideas Unlimited, Inc.
