He was 90. Born in Waldalgesheim, Germany, Stern emigrated to the U.S. with his parents in 1934, living first in New York City and then Milwaukee. After graduating from high school, Stern joined the U.S. Army and served in Europe as an interpreter after the end of World War II. Upon returning home, Stern attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying political science and law, and graduating in 1950. Stern founded the company now known as Norscot Group in 1970, and went on to serve as board chair of PPAI. He was considered one of the world’s leading experts on the manufacture and distribution of diecast scale-model replicas, and his children, Scott and Lisa, chose to work alongside him at Norscot. In retirement, Norm enjoyed Wisconsin sports, and golf and cards with his friends, and he continued to offer advice and counsel to Norscot. He was also a past Master of his Masonic Lodge. Stern is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sylvia; son Scott and his wife, Sandra; daughter Lisa Solochek and her husband, Warren; and grandchildren: Jodie and Jason Stern, Andi Solochek, and Ben Solocheck and his wife, Julie.
