PPAI • JULY 2026 • 61 PPPC Communiqué | Community One of the conference’s most talked-about sessions was the Leadership Exchange: AI in Action & Industry Impact, moderated by Strauss and PPPC Board Director Sergio Munoz of SRG. Rather than relying on traditional presentations, the session invited attendees into a full-room, peer-driven discussion about the opportunities and risks associated with AI adoption across the industry. A fireside chat between Steve Pons, McCabe Promotional Advertising; and Mark Collett, MBA, CEO of Crosbie Group; explored leadership, workforce evolution and AI’s growing impact on business. Sustainability also played a significant role in this year’s programming. Elizabeth Wimbush, CAS, director of sustainability and responsibility at PPAI, encouraged attendees to view sustainability not as a compliance exercise but as a business preparedness strategy tied to resilience, governance and long-term operational success. “Futureproofing businesses is less about predicting the future and more about building systems that work regardless of what comes next,” said Wimbush. Additionally, David Siekanowicz, director of creative strategy at 7 Communications, provided members with an inside look at PPPC’s ongoing rebranding initiative and how member feedback is actively shaping the association’s future direction. Beyond the education sessions, Catalyst emphasized meaningful connection and community-building, from networking events and peer-led roundtables to Newfoundland-inspired experiences like the Kitchen Party sponsored by Facilisgroup at O’Reilly’s Pub, located on St. John’s iconic George Street, and the popular “screeching- in” ceremony. As attendees departed St. John’s, one message resonated clearly: The future of the branded merchandise industry will be shaped not only by products, but by leadership, adaptability and collaboration. Batuszkin is the marketing and communications manager at PPPC. “Catalyst 2026 was an incredible success and a powerful reminder of the strength of Canada’s branded merchandise community.” – Jonathan N.
