NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT PPB How did your company get its start? Mel Lay: The Allmade story started when 10 screen-print shop owners traveled to Haiti together and saw first-hand the economic and environmental challenges experienced by garment workers. We realized what a positive impact we could have by creating dignified and ethically paying jobs that empower the proud people of Haiti to take care of themselves and their families. We returned wholly committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and child abandonment in Haiti, while reducing our industry’s impact on the environment. This is where the Allmade t-shirt was born. Our line of tees and sweatshirts are now currently made all over the world with our same guidelines we started with in Haiti. As of today, our tri-blend tee has helped save more than 15 million water bottles from waterways and the landfill. We are working hard to continue creating products that consumers love to wear, but the planet isn’t hurt in the process. PPB What led your company to enter the promotional products market? Lay: At Allmade, we feel that that people and planet-conscious products aren’t represented enough in the promo world. Making a product that consumers keep for years and don’t simply throw away creates a lasting relationship that is more purposeful and sustainable. PPB What’s your favorite thing about being in the promotional products industry? Lay: Taking care of the planet goes hand in hand with taking care of people, and we love the promotional products community. There is so much passion, and it felt like a great fit for our product to slide into. PPB Why did you join PPAI? Lay: We have thoroughly enjoyed The PPAI Expo in the past, and feel like it’s a great opportunity to further our goal in disrupting the blank t-shirt industry with a sustainable option. Together we can help our industry continue on a path for more eco-conscious products that are wearable for years to come.
